As urbanization progresses, citizens’ fear of crime is expected to increase gradually. Today, both criminal justice scholars and related-practitioners are making a special effort. The installation of CCTV is also part of that effort. Drawing on Ferraro’s risk interpretation model, this study aims to analyze the effects of CCTV perceptions on fear of property crime, controlling for gender. Due to data limitations, prior studies could not guarantee the generalizability of the findings. Using 2010 KCVS data, both structural equation modeling and one-way ANOVA approaches are estimated to test the interactive effects of gender on the relationship between CCTV perceptions and fear of property crime. The results show that, unexpectedly, the CCTV perceptions-fear of property crime link is positive, regardless of gender. Meanwhile, the other findings are in line with prior expectations of risk interpretation research. Main findings are discussed in the context of South Korea.
