The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship among empathic school community competency, sense of community, and subjective wellbeing, focusing on general and special high school students. For this purpose, a questionnaire was conducted on 608 high school students in Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, and Jeonnam, and the following research questions were verified. First, are there differences in sense of community, empathetic school community competency, and subjective wellbeing according to school type? Second, are there differences in the factors that affect subjective wellbeing according to school types? Third, are there differences in factors affecting sense of community according to school type? In order to solve the first research question, t-test was conducted. To solve the second and the third research question, multiple regression analysis were performed. The results showed that there were differences in sense of community, empathetic school community competency, and subjective wellbeing based on the type of school. These results suggest that the role of sense of community and empathetic school community competency is significant to improve the subjective wellbeing of high school students, and different approach is needed for each type of school.
