The sandtray therapy was conducted for the recovery of self-esteem, the alleviation of post-traumatic stress syndrome, and the ego development of the child. The subject child was a ten-year old girl, and the sandtray therapy was conducted for 40minutes per session and once a week from September 2016 to March 2017. As the pre/post test tools for verifying the changes in the subject child, the self-esteem test and the post-traumatic stress scale were used. The case of performing the sandtray therapy was analyzed in accordance with Neumann s Ego Development Stage. In the results of this study, the self-esteem of the subject child was improved from 38 to 43 while the post-traumatic stress syndrome got lowered from 11 to 8. Regarding the ego development of the subject child, in the expression of animal/plant phase as the 1st stage of Neumann s ego development, she showed a compulsive look of aiming for the perfect completion in confusion by pouring all the tools into a sandtray. She also expressed the conflict situation with her parents as a tense and defensive relationship. In the 2nd stage of struggle, when the child learnt Taekwondo, she showed a desire to gain the power. The actual difficulties that used to be conflictive and colliding in the peer/social relations were revealed. And her ego was gradually formed. In the 3rd stage of adaptation, lots of transportation means appeared, and the energy flow got freer. More constructive scenes were also expressed. Even though it was very tough for her to take a walk with her family in the past, she also expressed the look of taking a walk with her family afterwards. It means that her ego has obtained the power to initiatively act as the child s problematic behaviors were decreased and her positive behaviors were increased. In the results of this case study, the sandtray therapy was helpful for the recovery of the abused child. Also, by strengthening the child s ego, the power to adapt herself to environment was cultivated.
