The accomplishment of our modern history was, in fact, realized by all the wounds from wars, and it involved the sacrifice of a number of patriots as well as martyrs. Dongjak-dong National Cemetery was the first national cemetery built in 1955 to admire their spirits, and it has been constantly discussed to extend the facilities since then. This author here will examine their planning characteristics mainly with Seoul National Cemetery, Icheon National Cemetery, Daejeon National Cemetery, and Busan City Memorial Park that have been intensively discussed so far and found the significance of planning in each of the facilities. Also, this researcher will look into Goesan National Cemetery to figure out the significance of planning in the cemetery facility. The cemetery facility is very meaningful as space to honor the spirits of patriots, and they are not only fulfilling their original functions but changing into a space that provides the citizens with pleasantness. In fact, utilizing the landscaping space, small-scale facilities, or exhibition space, they are providing a space for users to enjoy their leisure time. Facilities consisting of a cemetery reflect the unique types of architecture, and they are all grounded on a general plan involving the forms, colors, and so on. Moreover, the main space reflects the hierarchical space planning and is being used for national events or events to honor the spirits of patriots.
