본 연구는 긍정적 모델을 중심으로 기존 장애모델들이 갖는 한계점들을 살펴보고, 긍정적 모델이 갖는 함의가 장애에 대한 기존의 관점들을 어떻게 보완하는지와 향후 장애에 대한 어떤 접근법이 전망되는지 고찰한다. 긍정적 모델은 장애와 손상을 반-비극적 관점으로 보고 긍정적인 장애정체성을 가질 것을 주장하는 모델이다. 긍정적 모델에서 손상과 장애는 누구에게나 일어나는 일상적인 삶의 부분이며, 장애인에게는 자신의 삶을 구성하는 정체성의 한 부분이다. 하지만 장애인의 개인적이고 심리적인 반응을 가지고 손상과 장애에 의미를 부여한다는 점에서 장애인들이 겪는 사회의 여러 장애문제에 대한 구체적인 해결책을 도출하기 어렵다. 따라서 추후 장애모델에 있어서는 기존 장애모델들의 한계점들을 중심으로, 특별히 장애정체성 을 논의함에 있어서 직면하는 여러 문제들을 고려해야 할 필요가 있겠다.
The purpose of this study is to introduce the affirmative model of disability among various disability models and to analyze limitations of the affirmation disability model in order to present directions for development of disability models. The affirmative model is a tool which seeks to celebrate the difference the characterize the lives of disabled people. It is contended that disabled people can be proud and have positive disability identity that they are different from the majority of the population. However, the affirmative model has difficult looking for concrete solutions to the problems faced by people with impairments because this model gives new meanings to ‘impairments’ and ‘disability’ with individual and psychological reactions. Therefore, it is necessary that disability models in the future have to consider limitations of various disability models and diverse meanings to the concept of disability and disability identity in order to focus on specific disability issues.
