브라질은 중남미 지역의 광활한 영토와 자국 내의 비교적 탄탄한 내수시장을 기반으로 중남미 역 내 경제에서 핵심적인 역할을 수행하고 있다. 또한, 다수의 광물 자원을 확보하고 있으며 수준 높은 기술력을 바탕으로 자동차 산업을 포함한 제조업 중심의 자국 경제를 충실히 운용해나가고 있다. 더욱이 주변 역내의 다수 국가들과 국경을 접하고, 긴밀한 교역 활동을 통해 메르코수르(남미공동시장)라는 남미 지역의 최대 경제 블록을 구축하여 선도 국가로서 지위를 누리고 있다. 한편, 2016년에 집권한 테메르 정부는 이전 정권에 비하여 외국인 투자와 기업들에게 개방적이고, 친화적인 정책을 취하고 있지만 정치적 입지가 안정적이지 못하여 세계 경제의 흐름에 따라서 브라질의 향후 발전과 경제 성장 또한 상당한 변화가 예상되고 있다. 하지만 브라질은 여전히 중남미 시장 진출과 관련하여 매우 중요한 핵심 국가이기에 브라질의 주요 경제와 산업 및 교역 환경 그리고 다양한 정책 등을 상세히 살펴보았다. 아울러 이에 미치는 다양한 요인들을 고찰함으로써 향후 브라질 시장 진입 확대와 교역 증진을 위한 다양한 제언을 모색하였다.
Brazil is playing a key role in the economy of Central and South America, based on the vast territories of Latin America and the relatively strong domestic market within its own region.
