Metaphor has been used as an architectural concept since the 20th century. Metaphor is a complex creative process that can not be generalized and defined, and has been applied in various disciplines based on rhetorical methods. Likewise, metaphorical expression in architecture has been used as a very useful tool, and it can be applied as a method to generate the polysemous meanings according to the extended social role of contemporary architecture together with environmental pollution problem caused by rapid urbanization. In this study, three types of metaphors of Antoniades (Anthony C) were categorized as architectural expressions of metaphors, and on the basis of the precedent researches, the metaphorical categories were architecturally subdivided through the relationship of the intention and media according to the composition principles of the metaphor concepts. Hence this study firstly analysed the contemporary culture facility examples, secondly handled the understanding of metaphor concepts, thirdly applied the direction of an architecturally expression of metaphor through the relationship of the social meaning to keep the contemporary architecture and the media to express architectural space and form, and lastly suggested the culture facility design to reflect above architectural metaphor and to consider the semantic relationship of architecture and nature.
