다양한 시민사회에 대한 담론을 근거로 현대 사회의 모습을 규정할 수 있다. 특히 네트워크(network)에 대한 논의는 현대 시민사회가 지닌 관계적인 특성에 대한 연구를 가능하게 한다. 정보사회를 맞이하여 등장한 발달된 매체(media)기술은 사회구성원들로 하여금 시공간을 넘어선 연대 구축을 유도했다. 이에 따라 새로운 시민사회로서의 가치를 지닌 공동체가 만들어졌는데, 여가 공동체(leisure community)는 그 대표적인 외연물이라 할 수 있다. 한국 사회에서 새롭게 창출된 신(新)공동체 문화(new community culture)는 집합주의에 근거한 삶을 추구하는 기존 전통적인 공동체의 한계를 넘어서 개개인 삶의 중요성도 함께 고려되는 새로운 기능이 내재된 문화적 특성에 의해 구성되고 있다. 현재 여가공동체는 공공성과 사적인 개인 욕구 모두를 고려하여 발현하고 있기 때문에 미래의 새로운 기능을 담당할 시민사회의 형성에 중요한 역할을 담당할 것이다.
One of the important terms to define characteristics of today's society must be network. With the development of various media technologies, society members came to be able to construct solidarity beyond temporal or spatial restrictions. This led to formation of new communities in diverse forms, including leisure communities as a typical phenomenon. New community culture in today's Korean society was constructed by new cultural characteristics with consideration of importance of personal life beyond limitations of the existing traditional cultural communities in pursuit of collectivism-based life alone. Leisure communities, which are now being constructed with both public properties and personal requirements considered, will take an important role in forming a desirable civil society in the future.
