This study was carried out to analyze the hearing threshold levels and relating factors of noise-exposed workers.
Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted on 2,586 Korean males consisted of 440 workers from noisy shipbuilding, 896 metal manufacturing factory workers with well-controlled HCP, and 1,250 nonindustrial-noise-exposed population (NINEP).
Results:As expected, the noise-exposed shipbuilding workers had significantly poorer hearing than the other groups. Multiple regression indicated that age, working duration, noise exposure level and type of study subjects were independently associated with hearing thresholds at PTA and 4,000 Hz. Conclusions:From these results, it was concluded that the effect of age and noise exposure seems to affect the hearing thresholds independently.
