English spondaic words are assumed to be homogeneous with respect to intelligibility in determining the speech reception threshold (SRT). Equal intelligibility requires that the words should be comparable for all signal levels. In this experiment, the 90 Korean bisyllabic words were presented to 20 subjects at intensity levels ranging from -10 to 18 dBHL. The percentage of repeating each word was plotted as a function of intensity level to show psychometric functions of each word. Using a logistic regression equation, we obtain 50% point (threshold) for each word and were able to predict the percent correct for a range of -10 to 18 dBHL in 1 dB
increment step. The purpose of this study was to report word thresholds of Korean bisyllabic words and to generate psychometric functions of these words. Thorough studies should be preceded on characteristics of Korean bisyllabic words for the selection of SRT materials. It was concluded that the criteria suggested by Hudgins et al. (1947) should be considered selectively with the characteristics of Korean language in developing Korean SRT materials.
