The ability of discriminating speech under noise conditions has been known as an important skill in everyday situations. This task, however, was even more difficult for subjects with hearing loss. In this study, HINT scores were measured and compared in normal hearing and SNHL groups to analyze preferred conditions for improved speech discrimination. Participants had mean ages of 21.5 yrs (normal group) and 42 yrs (SNHL group). All subjects were measured for PTA and HINT under Quiet (Q), Noise Front (NF), Noise Right (NR), and Noise Left (NL) conditions. Results showed that more elevated threshold levels in SNHL group than normal group under all conditions and this tendency was even more pronounced under noise conditions. Both groups showed the BMLD effects while right ear advantage (REA) was noticed only in the normal group.
