청대 고중작업을 거쳐서 아호논쟁보다 태극논쟁이 후대에 이루어졌다는 것이 밝혀졌으며, 태극논쟁에서 주자와 육상산 양자의 차이가 더 극심하게 드러났다고 할 수 있다. 비록 모종삼의 경우 태극논쟁에서 육상산의 논지는 보잘것 없었다고 폄하하면서 태극논쟁의 주 논지는 주자의 입장이 객관성을 띠고 있다고 실명하고 있지만, 논자는 태극논쟁에 나타난 육상산의 입장은 주자학과는 다른 상산학의 존재론에 다가갈 수 있는 한 방향을 제시해주고 있다고 생각한다. 이에 본고에서는 성리학의 존재론에 기반을 제시해 준 주돈이의 『태극도설』에 대한 이해를 둘러싸고 이루어진 주자와 육상산 간의 논쟁의 장점을 통해서 주자학과 성산학의 경계를 살펴보고자 한다.
this thesis is aimed at revealing the continuity and the discontinuity between Zhuzixue(朱子學) and Xianshanxue through a point of dispute about Taiji. Zhuxi regards T매 i as the model that everyone should follow. Taiji in his thought is the universal Li and the nature of all things in the universe. Therefore, he says everyone should know and realize its principle given from Heavenl. this is the Zhuzixue’ s feature that gives special emphasis to Li been inlmanent in all things in the universe. On the other hand, Lu Xiangshan lays the emphasis on one\'s innated ‘mind and heart’ that is a pole as the Zhong(中) So, he says everyone should not lose one\' s innated mind and heart. ll1erefore, he regards the precursor’ s role as important because the precursor embodies his own innated mind and heart. We can fincl the difference of the existentialism and the theory of Gonfu in two schools through a point of dispute about Taiji.
