In order to prevent the elderly suicide increasing recently, it is necessary to study the relation between the family function of manhood & late adulthood and suicidal impulse. This study was described to help one understand the elderly suicide in the family functional perspective based on the results of a doctoral dissertation of this writer(Kim, Gung-ja, 2005). In the results of study for a doctoral thesis, this writer made a close inquiry that the family function affected the suicidal impulse, and especially clarified a meaningful effect on the family role function and family relation function out of 7 factors in the functions such as the problem solution in family intrinsic feature, communication, family role, emotional response, emotional commitment, behavior control and family relation function. That is to day, it may be fairly said that the more family function is reinforced, the more the parameter variances of depression and stress became weakened. In conclusion, in order to lessen and prevent the elderly suicide, the prepared preventive education has to be performed so that the suicidal factors may not occur from middle and manhood targeting the whole family members, for which the institutional, political and practical support continue being constructed.
