The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of group art therapy
through LMT on the self esteem of schizophrenic inpatients. A total of 10
schizophrenic inpatients participated in this study. The experiment period was
from January to April, 2009, twice a week, and 20 times in all. Each
experiment lasted 70 minutes. The self-esteem tests were administered before
and after the program to see if there was any change in the degree of the
inpatients\' self-esteem. The landscape montage technique (LMT) were also
utilized four times, every 3 weeks. The research data were analyzed in
order to see what effect this group art therapy gives to schizophrenic
inpatients. The results of this study are as follows: First, the self-esteem
points increased after the therapy. Second, the LMT showed that the
experimental group had positive changes in the following analysis items:
viewpoint, the relationship between river and road, unity, the number of
items, space organization, the usage of realistic colors, finishing touch of
colors, expression of distance and space, place of self image in landscape,
and behavior change of self image in landscape. This study found that the
group art therapy for schizophrenic inpatients helped improve the self esteem
of the inpatients.
