현대사회에서 삶의 공동체를 복원하기 위한 생활공동체에 대한 논의나 접근은 다양하게 전개되고 있다. 그러나 그 논의의 시작은 근대사회의 사화문제를 해결하기 위한 대안적 시민운동과 생활정치운동에서 비롯되었다. 따라서 초기의 공동체 논의는 지리적, 사회적 상호작용, 공동의 연대 등 세가지 차원에서 구성된다(Hillery, 1955)는 점에서 지리적 영역을 중요시했으나, 점차 공동체를 구성하는 요소로 개인적 친밀감, 사회적 응집력, 정신적 관여, 연속성, 감정적 깊이 등(Bernard, 1973)을 중요하게 인식하기 시작하였다. 더욱이 최근의 공동체 논의는 실천적 공동체로서, 협동적 주체(또는 상호성에 입각한 자율적 주체)로서 개인이 자율성을 가지고 상대방의 이해를 고려하고 공감대를 형성하여 지속적으로 소통하여야 함(강현두·김명희· 김성동·이건·이길상·이명진·조난심·한세역·한준상, 2003; 강대기, 2003)을 강조하고 있다.
This study aims at promoting community activities in life. And analyzing active communities of three case(modugol, noddle, keundul), we derived the common characteristics: value, mediator, space, and contents. Based on these common characteristics, this study suggests four basic policies to continue the communities: 1) daily lives based on living culture 2) unity that shares various experiences with residents and produces cultural middle class 3) voluntary participation that develops communities continually 4) developing local community culture by strengthening many types of community culture and reflecting characteristics of local culture and space. Based on the policy directions, this study suggests following specific policy plans to maintain communities successfully. First, for the constant and successful community activities, we should find out and cultivate the mediator who can actually make the community and sustain it steadily. This policy support requires cultural sources, consulting, and analysis as well as needs, community's vision and plan. After the mediator training, space, education, and budget support should be met. Second, the study proposes that mediators should classify into three groups of public institution, artist group, and resistants by leading subject, and apply the appropriate plans. Finally, it suggests that the public agencies should share their cultural mind and interact their projects that are related to promoting communities.
