The purpose of this study was to review the previous studies on the nexus of leisure and spirituality overall, and to suggest the significant meaning of the spiritual implication of leisure in a new era of paradigm shifting from work-based to leisure-based. As a result of the study mainly based on the related literature review and analysis, the studies on the nexus of leisure and spirituality were divided into three different modes: 1) conceptual analyses of the relationship between leisure and spirituality mainly based on Pieper\'s and Lee\'s studies, 2) studies on spiritual experience in a variety of leisure activities, and 3) studies on spiritual benefits of nature-based leisure experience. The spiritual implications of leisure were found in Greece classics, Schola Philosophy of the Middle Age and \'Sabbath\' of Jewish and Christian tradition. It was argued, however, the over-emphasis of work-value separated spirituality from leisure, leaving the former in the sacred realm while the latter moved into the secular. It was in the contemporary society that the reunion of leisure and spirituality towards ultimate happiness of human beings occurred. Finally, this study suggested that the expanded concept of leisure as spiritual opportunity would play the role as a powerful agenda leading the quality of life in the 21st Century, no longer as a secondary agenda following work.
