본 연구에서는 서구이론이 다양한 문화권에 적용하는 것에 대한 문화적 다양성에 대한 기본적인 전제를 설명하면서 우리나라의 경우에는 지배적인 기본 가치체계인 가족주의와 이에 최근의 다문화에 대한 현상을 주목하여 접근하고자하였다. 21세기 한국의 전통적 사회구조적 특성에 특정사회관계 유형화(patterned) 혹은 제도화(institutionalized)의 현상이라 설명할 수 있는 다문화주의에 대해 사회복지실천에서의 문화적 다양성 패러다임을 요구되고 있는 현실이다. 즉, 서구이론이 한국의 사회복지실천현장에 적용될 때 그대로 받아들여지기보다 한국적 문화를 수용하는 측면에서 다문화주의 현상을 설명하고, 이러한 맥락에서 문화적다양성에 대한 한국적 사회복지실천의 방향성을 설명하고자 하였다.
The multiculturalism in South Korea is very paradoxical. There is a gap between discourse and reality, concept and substance, goal and means, etc. The future of the South Korean multiculturalism may be changed, depending on some extent of minimizing or regulating this gap. In this research, we are on the position in that Western Theory apply to various South Korean multiculturalism. When it comes to South Korea, family culture about cultural diversity paradigm in social welfare practice can be explained that social structure with multiculturalism. I explain to intervention of actual social welfare practice when Western Theory apply to social welfare practice, it is rather to accommodate South Korean culture than without consideration. And then, a list of questions is provided, which is thought to be needed to build a multicultural society in South Korea. Key words : Multiculturalism in South Korea, Paradox of Multiculturalism
