The purpose of this study was to ascertain the effects of Art Therapy on the growth of a couple's marital relationship, through greater facilitation in the expression of depth emotions, a growing self-understanding and spouse-understanding, and improved communication. As there is little documented research on the topic, this paper may prove to be a significant contribution to the research on art therapy and its influence on the marital relationship. The acquired results of this research support the previously published data on this topic and indicate that: 1. Art Therapy has a positive influence on the satisfaction of mutual needs. 2. Art Therapy promotes the couple's level of communication. 3. Art therapy increases the marital satisfaction. The researcher acknowledges that more trials and test cases of the art therapy program would have been beneficial. It is premature to conclude that art therapy would have the same level of success as stated above, as only one couple participated in the research program. A larger experimental group, close monitoring of the participants, and reinforcement of the program (e.g., the addition of a sexuality program) were thought to be indispensable areas for gathering more reliable data.
