The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of Gestalt group art therapy on depression and self-concept of homeless people. This therapy was lasted for 60 minutes once a week (Total 12th sessions) at a K welfare facility in a K city from 21/Sep/2008 to 12/January/2009. One is the experimental group, and the other is the control group. Each group was consisted of 8 people among the homeless people, who need to be rehabilitated. The change of depression and self-concept between the former which was conducted the therapy and the latter which wasn't subjected to the therapy was analyzed and compared in a qualitative
approach, and in a quantitative approach. BDI and Sung shin self-concept examination were used for the measure to determine the effects of this program. In order to compare the score change between before therapy and after therapy, SPSS 12.0, was employed, and T-test method was adopted for analyzing the data.
As a projective drawing test, DAS and K-HTP were employed. After the conducting of the test before the therapy and after the therapy, the result was analyzed up to the standard of interpretation. Consequently, indicates a positive effects on low self-esteem and anxiety caused by depression, indolence and dependence of a long-term stay in a facility to rehabilitate. In other words, Gestalt group art therapy has a positive effect on mitigate the level of depression and stabilize people's emotions.
