In practicing art therapy 00 trainable mentally retarded a art therapist should understand the charactistics of the children art-theaching methods An art therapy program of training mentally retarded is similar to an art education process in preprimary schools. The children should be given enough time to expresses their ideas using the art material.
The present research investigated effects of using draw a person. puzzle, folding paper, making clay, etc. on maladaptive behabior of TMR children. Each session lasted approximately
45minutes. There was tota1 of 15 sessions. Pre-post assessments of the child were done using KEDI-WISC’ performance test, Simple Intelligence Test by DA, behavior observation, Kinetic Family Drawing(KFD), and Kinetic Hous-Tree-Person(KHTP)
The following resu1ts were obtained:
First, child would give attention to a task and complete it. And he could perform exactly when he was asked.
Second, child had never stolen anything for three months
Third, child could play dominantly within institution.
Finally child could not present in aggression that he struck others [In conclusion, the present art therapy program was successful in reducing that maladaptive behavior of TMR childen
