소련의 시베리아 강제수용소에서 실제로 있었던 사건은 인간이 얼마나 꿈과 상상을 동경하고 그것이 생명력의 원천이 되는가를 단적으로 말해준다. “ 어느 한 막사에 옛날 이야기를 많이 아는 할머니가 있었고 그 할머니는 곧잘 늦은 밤에 옛날 이야기를 들려주곤 했다. 그 후로 막사 내의 모든 이는 감명 받은 열성적 청중이 되었고,할머니가 일을 못하여 굶게되자 막사 내의 모든 이는 낮에 일한 대가로 받은 빵의 일부를 할머니에게 떼어 주어 늦은 밤 할머니의 이야기는 전쟁이 끝날 때 까지 계속될 수 있었고, 그럼으로 그 막사가 매주 열 명 정도 죽어 나가는 다른 막사에 비하여 백여명의 피수용자가 빠짐없이 살아남을 수 있었다는 이야기이다.\" (Eliade. 1985) 단지 살아남는 것이 모든 것이었던 상황 속에서 옛날의 동화 나부랭이가 무슨 필요가 있을까 하는 생각은 삶에 쫓기어 꿈을 잃어 버린 현대인의 단견이고, 아무것도 허락되지 않는 통제와 속박에서도 동화와 설화를 통한 상상력과 그것을 통한 울음과 웃음만이 하루의 지친 노동과 전쟁의 절망속에서 그들이 행할 수 있는 자유의 승리며 돌파구였음을 여실히 증명해 주고 있다. 또한 이러한 신화와 설화를 통하여 인간과 문화에 미치는 실질적 기능은 입증되고 남음이 있다. 존재하고 있는 아무리 사소한 그 무엇이라도 의미없이 던져진 그 무엇은 없다는 사실을 한가하게 생각되어지는 신화와 설화를 통하여 여행함으로 다시 원점으로 돌아왔을 때 성숙해진 자신의 모습을 발견 할 수 있을 것이다.
The propose of this study is to understand haw folktale is affected by the symbolic me aning of character, which are come on the folktale of Grimm brother, and the symbol of unconsciousness. The results of this interpretation were as fallow; First, who a main character, who left his parent, contact with another object. It is classified that he stay for some period with a person who is hated through regarding it in the some light with the olktale or he himself becomes that object. Second, In case that unconsciousness be come personal object. It becomes usually the old， demon, beast, magician, dwarf, and so on, however, unconsciousness can often be positive object as well. Third, The main character descents into the unconsciousness and classes himself with that unconsciousness object, as the result, he accomplishes the perfection of oneself and getting married to the princess who is the symbol of maturity and union.
