The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of art therapy on improvement of
The RAD child's self-control and interaction ability. The subject of this case study was a
RAD child diagnosed by DS:vr -l\i. The total 22 sessions took place 50minutes twice a week
from June 2002 to August 2002. He has been observed before and after the art therapy by
parents, kindergartener and therapist
I\Iain findings of this study were as follows:
First, RAD child's self-control ability was increased through art therapy. There was a
significant change in RAD child' behaviors observed by parents, kindergartener and
therapist: Less obstinacy, decreased number writing, and faded extensive crying
Second, Interaction ability was improved through art tberapy: Less avoidance of
proximity to the therapist, more exploratory, more eye contact, less withdraws from social
interaction. The results supported tbat art therapy was a useful intervention for
improvement of RAD child' self-control and interaction ability.
