"This study gives a close view to depression, one of psychopathic causes of children in welfare institutes, and intends to help lessen depression by an art therapy. The purpose of this study is to help instituted children regain mental stability and self confidence required for leading a healthy life, obtain capability required by modern society, and become a grownup well adapted to the society.
Test results are summarized as follows:
First, the art therapy has a meaningful effect on depression in instituted children, which is proven by the fact that the CDI was significantly lowered after we had given the art therapy to the above girl.
Second, as the number of art therapy sessions increased, the girl used much more self-expression, and verbal/non-verbal expression, developed capability of exploring unconsciousness and self-achievement, and gaining self control, and obtained the chances of self-insight and awareness, and easing depression through positive feedback.
Summing up these results, we can see that the art therapy to instituted children not only relieves their depression but also gives positive effect on their mental-emotional problems, the negative side-effects of depression.
