"This paper provides error types which are revealed during solving equation problems for 6th grade elementary school students who will experience the linear equation problems for the first time for preparing 2007 revised curriculum.
In this paper we classified the error types as misunderstanding errors, technical errors, unwanted solutions, ambiguous errors. Among them technical errors are most frequently observed. Misunderstanding errors were showed secondly because students don't understand basic concepts or principles of equations and they can't apply to the real problems. Lastly, one of the main reasons why students have errors is that students consider equality not as the symbol of the relation between two sides, but as the symbol of the result of the previous operation. Since equality is used universally in curriculum, continuous and consistent guidance about the equality are needed for developing their understanding the equality all over the areas.
