This study intended to find out factors on the residents' will levels toward independent living at the
residential facilities for the physically disabled, and to suggest plans to raise their will levels. The study
results show that the higher their IADL are, the higher their will levels toward independent living are.
Considering that the IL paradigm pursues independent living of people with severe disabilities, support is
needed to make ‘independent living by dependence' possible. In addition, the residents show the higher will
levels toward independent living when they use community facilities more often and when they have more
social support.
