This research presents the concept of the dance image literacy based on Langer’s ‘Dynamic image’ theory on dance, the theory with its foundation on Mcluhan’s theory of the relationship between media and society, and Hea-ri Han’s dance image theory presented on her research. Through this research, it can be concluded that the media communicate through images. Given that the dance image literacy image making is conducted through communication, it is noted that the dance image literacy is very similar to dance-critiquing in the sense that it requires understanding, classifying, and evaluating images created by dance. For the above findings, this research examines the concept of media expansion and the modern goal of education through media, and searches for the relationship between the image literacy and education through media to come up with the following functions and importance of the dance image literacy as below. Through the research based on the above logic, we have reached following conclusions: First, in addition to its function of delivery, media are used as a mean of communication that consist of our daily lives and culture. Second, given the conclusion about the concept of the media derived above, education through media is a type of education with an objective of group communication which assists modern society to find its meaning of existence when living in the current media environment of an electrical/electronic age. Group communication requires the ability to distinguish fictitious information and this can be replaced by the ability of practicing image literacy. Third, education through media and the image literacy bolster the ability to perceive the actual intention of images from fictitious and hypothetical images. Fourth, through the ability to understand, classify, and evaluate dance images and the ability of self-expression, the dance image literacy functions to educate about ethics, aesthetics, and values. Therefore, the dance image literacy is part of education through media as a whole in which both dance and media education occur simultaneously. In conclusion, dance is an art of communicating through images, anddance image literacy gains an educational value through its function of teaching the society to perceive the world correctly.
