The purpose of this study is to analyze the perceptions of university social welfare professors regarding social welfare education and the future society in South Korea, to diagnose the problems surrounding social welfare education, and to explore the future direction of social welfare education in South Korea. To do this, interviews were systematically analyzed using the Nvivo 11 program, a qualitative research data analysis tool. As a result, 199 nodes were formed. After the secondary categorization, three upper categories, 10 middle classes, and 28 sub categories were created. The first category, Future society and social welfare,’ includes the difficulty of defining future society, anxiety about future society, and the academic discipline to be emphasized. The second category, present reality of social welfare education in preparation of future society, points out various current problems with South Korean social welfare education as well as opportunities to enhance professionalism. Finally, the third category, response plan of social welfare education for the future society, describes the necessity of establishing a basis for social welfare studies and educators’ educational philosophies, cultivating human resources for fusion, and the need for continuous education. The results of this study are expected to have meaning as basic data in the direction of future social welfare education in Korea.
