이 연구는 지적 전통주의의 성격이 강한 현재의 특수교육 교육과정 체제에서 지적장애나 발달지체 학생들과 같이 일반적인 교과 체제로 충분한 교육적 성과를 얻기 힘든 장애 학생에게 충분한 교육과정 및 교과 경험을 제공하기 위해서 기본 교육과정의 새로운 교과 체제로서 생활 주제 중심 교과 체제를 제안하고 방향성을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 현재의 기본 교육과정의 교과 구조나 체제가 지닌 문제점을 짚어 보고, 새로운 기본 교육과정의 교과 체제가 갖추어야 할 요소들을 제시하고 이에 대한 이론적 근거를 탐색하며, 이를 바탕으로 새로운 교과의 체제를 제안하였다. 생활 주제 중심 교과가 지적장애 학생과 발달지체 학생을 중심으로 한 특수교육에서 갖는 함의를 제시하면, 첫째, 생활 주제 중심 교과는 장애 학생들의 총체적이고 전인적인 학습 가능성을 높일 수 있다. 둘째, 생활 주제를 통해 학생들의 실질적인 삶과 직접적으로 연결된 학습 경험을 제공할 수 있다. 셋째, 생활 주제 중심 교과는 학생 삶의 실질적인 성장과 변화에 초점을 맞춘 과정 중심의 평가를 강조한다. 넷째, 생활 주제 중심 교과의 모든 주제는 학생들이 살아가는 생태학적 맥락의 3차원적 맥락을 포함할 수 있어야 한다. 다섯째, 생활 주제 중심 교과는 대다수의 사람들이 일상생활에서 경험하는 다양한 삶의 방식을 허용하는 것처럼 다양한 대안적 참여 방식을 포함한다.
The purpose of this study was to suggest and explore the life-centered theme-based subject to provide the fully curricular and subject experience to SNS. For this, this study was reviewed the issues of subject for special education, explored the theoretical base of the alternative subject system, and suggested the new subject system as the alternative system in special education. The implications of this study are as follows. First, the life-centered theme-based subject increased the possibility of the whole learning and whole child approach for SNS. Second, the fully learning experiences were provided by the life-centered theme-based subject associated in the real life of SNS. Third, the process-based evaluation was emphasized in the life-centered theme-based subject, Forth, the life-centered theme-based subject were constituted the third dimension involved physical factor, time factor, strategy factor. Fifth, the life-centered theme-based subject included the various alternative way of learning.
