According to the UN World Happiness Report 2018, Korea is ranked 57th out of 156 participating countries. Korea is also ranked 29th in terms of Gross Domestic Product(GDP) rank. There is a big discrepancy between happiness rank and economy development rank. Worse yet, since 2003, commit suicide rates of Korea has reached to top among 36 OECD countries for 13 consecutive years. This stats imply that Korea is an unhappy country.
The main purpose of this paper is to develop a model or theoretical framework for happiness centered music education for public school music class. Theory behind this effort is that public school education program is responsible, some what, for the social and cultural characteristics of its own country. Developing means of making students happier through public school music program is the principal purpose of this paper. For that purpose, the concept of happiness has examined through the related literature and special documentary programs and elements of happiness were extracted. Based on the extracted elements, a model of happiness education was developed then employing that model to a music education practice, a model of happiness centered music education was suggested. For the safe launch of happiness centered music education practice, general guidelines and principles of music instructions are recommended.
