The purpose of this study is to grasp the opinions of field teachers about the current elementary school social studies guidebook and to prepare the improvement plan of the next one. Teachers in Seoul area participated in the questionnaire of 29 and presented opinions on the actual use and evaluation of the current guidebook and suggestions for the next one. The results of the study were classified into subgroups according to the teachers’ social studies education major and career experience, and independent sample t-test and cross-analysis were conducted. As a result, the respondents thought that the current curriculum and textbook guidance function was satisfactory, but the frequency of using the social studies guidebook was not very high. Teachers pointed out that the guidebook lacked guidance on the practicality of the lesson and lacked student activity data and evaluation materials. Therefore, it was revealed that teachers mainly use the online community of teachers to obtain the materials necessary for social studies lessons. Therefore, in order to use the guidebook more actively in preparation and execution of the social studies lesson by the teacher, the process of developing the guidebook should be put a greater emphasis on the needs of the teachers in the field of social studies education than the demands of the social studies education community. In addtion, the guidebook should be reorganized around the provision of materials related to the actual contents for the social studies lesson. Also, it is necessary to build an online site together to provide timely and diverse materials at the same time, and to help teachers to use them conveniently.
