The purpose of the study is to illustrate and develop subject-linked teaching and learning materials for experiential character education in Korean language courses. First of all, as a theoretical basis of the study, the article provides a review of subject-linked experiential character education and methods, research trends and the possibility of subject-linked character education in Korean language courses, and non-subject based experiential character education and seowon. The results of the study are as follows: Firstly, we analyzed the characteristics and educational value of Dosansibigok (陶山十二曲) according to the aspects listed in the literary textbook of the 2011 Korean language curriculum, and we presented teaching and learning materials for subject-linked character education that are based upon this analyzed. Secondly, we have developed examples of character education that center on the humanity-related, ecological, and cultural experiences in Dosansibigok and Dosanseowon (陶山書院).
In conclusion, it is expected that the language classroom will be able to embody character virtues through humanity-related, ecological, and cultural experiences that the learning of sijo and seowon offers in a Korean Language course. As a follow-up study, it is suggested that further research be conducted on developing various learning materials for subject-linked character education in Korean language courses and practice teacher education for implementing character education in the classroom.
