The purpose of this study was to investigate the middle & old aged applicants’ difficulties and needs in taking the qualification examination (GED examination) in Korea. For this purpose, qualitative data were collected from 10 middle & old aged applicants and 4 teachers through semi-structured interview. And the data were analyzed by content analysis process. Based on the analyses, the findings were as follows: First, there were many limits and imperfections the middle/old aged applicants’ preparing the documents. Especially the applicants’ physical and cognitive changes by aging hindered preparing the documents and examination. Second, there were the difficulties and needs about place, facilities, procedure, and management of the examination. Because the middle & old aged applicants had special needs for the examination, the diverse tracks of test needed to be designed. Especially, the interviewees tolled the opinions about the level of difficulty and time assignment in the examination. Third, There were 4 types of barriers such as information & guide, individual systematic, and organizational type. On the bases of these findings, suggestions were discussed.
