The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the characteristics of children at risk for emotional and behavioral disorders described by teachers with CPSQ-Ⅱ. In order to conduct the study, the survey polled 35 elementary school teachers. The teachers answers were analyzed using the procedure of qualitative analysis by Elo and Kyngäs(2007). The results are as follows. First, teachers most frequently described the factors of irritability/disobedience and low concentration as characteristics of children at risk for emotional and behavioral disorders, followed by anxiety/depression and underachievement/lack of sociability factors and others the least. Second, the study found 10 newly categorized characteristics of children that are not mentioned in the CPSQ-II questionnaire. Among them, teachers most frequently described expressing their emotions in a way that threatens themselves or others . In summing up the above findings, teachers tended to be more aware of externalized behavior problems than internalized behavioral problems. In addition, teachers who described internalized behavior problems often recognized problems through consultation with children and parents. Teachers especially recognized the characteristics of children at risk for emotional and behavioral disorders as being difficult to guide or feeling responsible. Some CPSQ-Ⅱ questions lack the information needed to understand the context of the problematic behavior. Therefore, the questionnaire needs to be more modified.
