Academics of today’s era are challenged when finding their ideologies and self-identity due to the increasingly diverse environment. This paper aims to analyze Post Modernism defined by visual culture that has been formed by active debate, and with this background seeks to invent modern visual culture. Through an in-depth understanding of the traditional self-portrait through Mencius’s Hoyenjigi and the ontology provided by Deleuze, a new potential is found for the art style of portraits. I proposed a practical lecture where students can visually express their interactions with these ideologies provided by both the traditional and the modern portrait. Furthermore, students will analyze their works to see how effectively they have developed their personal views. Through this research, it can be confirmed that recognition of self was enabled by formation of individuality and traditional concepts.
