Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in cognitive ability of children with Borderline Intellectual Functioning (BIF) through game therapy.
Methods: In this study, game therapy was conducted for 45 minutes to 50 minutes per session for one child with BIF, dividing it into early, middle, and late period based on the preK-WISC-IV test. The change in cognitive ability was measured using a postK-WISC-IV test.
Results: The Full Scale Intelligence Quotient (FSIQ) changed from 77 to 88. In each major index, Verbal Comprehension Index (VCI) was 84 in both pretest and posttest. Perceptual Reasoning Index (PRI) changed from 80 to 102, Working Memory Index (WMI) from 117 to 120, and Processing Speed Index (PSI) from 55 to 59.
Conclusions: The postK-WISC-IV test revealed that the FSIQ, each major index, and subtest scores general increased. Therefore, the game therapy conducted in this study was effective case study in changing the cognitive ability of the one child with BIF.
