In this study, we looked at the method of lesson studies in Japan. In particular, a lesson study by Nagoya University (called a Japanese class study), which has been leading Japan s study through a workshop-type lesson conference (a lesson analysis), was reviewed and analyzed as a case study.
The study can summarize the characteristics of Japanese lesson studies into four categories:
1) Based on teachers spontaneity and co-operation, the method of lesson studies is utilized mainly through the establishment of a cooperative professional learning community. 2) In the course of lesson studies, there are many types of problem-solving studies that bring a particular purpose or sense of problem into the lesson. 3) The focus of Lesson studies is on students. In short, students are centered among various variables, interpreting and reinterpreting the meaning of the lesson from the standpoint of students, such as learners cognitive processes, learners learning and growth. 4) Classroom meetings are often used based on the records of classroom observation and based on realistic records.
Given the global trend of lesson studies in school education where convergence curricula are emphasized today, it is very valuable in the case of Nagoya University s lesson analysis as a course of lesson analysis in the form of student-centered, record-oriented, problem-solving, workshop, etc.
