본 논문은 ‘법률인공지능(Legal AI)’, ‘의료인공지능(Medical AI)’ 등과 같이 교육 분야에도 ‘교육인공지능’이라는 용어를 도입하여 관련 기술개발은 물론 기술의 활용에 따르는 제반 사회문제에 대한 준비와 대처가 가능하도록 하는 의도에서 작성되었다. 최근 전 국민의 인공지능 관련 소양 증진이라는 정책적 관심에 더불어 등장한 ‘인공지능교육(AI Education)’ 개념이 ‘인공지능 활용을 위한 교육 활동’과 ‘교육 서비스를 위한 인공지능’을 모두 포괄하는 것으로 쓰이기 시작하여 교육 분야 인공지능 기술 도입 및 관련 담론의 활성화가 지체될 우려가 있다. 본 논문에서는 ‘교육인공지능(Education AI)’이라는 용어를 도입하여 실현 및 지속이 가능한 인공지능 교육 서비스를 전망해 본다. 더불어, 인공지능이 더이상 단순한 도구에 머물지 않고 존재양식이 인간과 유사한 객체가 될 때, 인간과 인간 간의 교육 뿐 아니라 AI에 대한 인간의 유사-교육, AI를 매개로 한 인간 대 인간의 교육(인간-AI-인간 교육), AI와 AI 간의 유사-교육으로 새로운 교육적 관계가 발생할 수 있는 점에 대해서도 논한다. 마지막으로, ‘교육인공지능’과 인간 교육자 간의 경쟁 또는 협업이 발생할 수 있는 점을 고려하여 ‘교육인공지능’과 더불어 추구해야 할 지속가능한 교육을 위한 7가지 환경적 여건을 제시한다.
The article argues that it is necessary to adopt and use the concept and the terminology of ‘Education AI’ to avoid confusion with ‘AI Education’, which concerns rather educational activities about AI than the AI that performs educational function. With the initiative of AI Education by the government, the discourse of AI Education appears to embrace even the issue of building AI systems in Educational sector. What is to be indicated as ‘Education AI’ might be in its burgeoning stage and the its service centers around schools and universities. Also, it may show some functions and performances looking like the education that humans make in terms of behaviors and functions only, and thus ceasing to be quasi-education or non-education. However, the article tries to reason out, using the metaphor of Moravec’s paradox, why AIs remain as a set of functions only that would sometimes exceed human capacity but stay far from covering full intelligence of certain practice such as education. Logically, this leads to the possibility of cooperation between human and AI for education that would extend ‘educational relationship’ between the two. Lastly, the article suggests to build up the favorable environment to sustainable education by human and AI.
