This article is case study on community(urban village) based a theater club, which aims to clarify its cultural practices and the meanings of community. The researcher have conducted participation observation and in-depth interview for almost three years. The theater club have been active for 10 years since 2008. It have been made of various people from 20s to 50s who had lived in and out of the community.
They have pursued liberal relationship within club which have not been bounded by existing social order and rule, for example hierarchies of age, social status, and talent. In reading and interpreting the play script and embodying characters in the play, they have communicated with other club members. They have felt the pleasures of playing through participation of theater club.
But, when some members suggested existing social organizational principle based on responsibility and efficiency, they couldn’t communicate with other members because It was different from culture of club. The members passionate about their performance in the play, but they have stood in a different social position according to the experiences of various social relations in the community. It was discussed the meaning of cultural practices in the theater club.
