In reviewing contemporary art education, it is very important to examine the contents of art education to confirm how the trend of the art world of the country since the modern era, the identity of the art, traditional culture, and aesthetic consciousness of the country are handled according to internationalization. The purpose of this study is to examine the structure of modern art as a time axis and a space axis, to identify it as a structure of four layers, to clarify the contents of art education in Korea and Japan, and to look at art education in the future. For this purpose, the structure of Asian modern art was first examined and the contents of art education were analyzed focusing on the changes of curriculum in Korea and Japan. As a result, Korea and Japan have also included the establishment of their national culture in the goal of art education for the formation of a nation-state in the modern era, which suggests that it should be developed in the direction of mutual cooperation with the national identity in terms of identity, internationalization, tradition and modernity in the future. In this sense, the work of structuring the theme and materials of art education by structuring modern and contemporary art of the country and its own people will be meaningful in seeking future direction.
