본 연구는 남성 중심 일자리에 진입한 여성의 이야기를 통해 성별 직종이 분리되어 있는 일의 영역이 양성으로 확장되는 총체적인 맥락을 살펴보고 그 독특한 경험의 의미를 발견하여 직업탐색과 경력관리에 대한 이해를 넓히고자 수행되었다. 건설기능직 현장 경력이 20년 이상 된 현직 목수, 타워크레인 기사, 굴삭기 조종사인 여성 세 명을 선정하여 내러티브 탐구 절차에 따라 연구참여자들의 경험의 의미를 탐구하였다. 내러티브 분석 결과, 유년시절부터 현재까지 인생 이야기로 본 역할에 대한 태도, 건설기능직 이전의 직업 경험, 건설기능직에 입문하기까지의 경험, 남성이 다수인 건설현장에서의 경험의 네 가지 영역이 도출되었다. 여성이 전통적인 남성 중심 일터에서 건설기능인의 삶을 살아내는 이야기는 극적인 사건을 동반하고 있었는데, ‘오기’, ‘배짱’, ‘성취감’이라는 본성으로 정리했다. 이러한 경험의 의미를 바탕으로 여성성과 남성성에 관한 성 역할 인식, 직업진로 탐색경험, 전통적인 남성 중심 직업에서 성인단계별 경력관리의 맥락에서 연구결과를 논의하였다.
The purpose of this study was to examine the general context in which occupations that have traditionally been separated by gender are being expanded to incorporate both genders through the stories of women that have entered the center of male workplaces. This qualitative study was conducted to better understand career search and career management by discovering the meaning of women’s unique experiences. To accomplish this, three women with more than 20 years of experience in the field of construction were selected: a carpenter, a tower crane engineer, and an excavator driver. Following the analysis of female construction workers’ narratives, the following four centric areas were derived and formed the research context for this study: stories of their lives, stories about their career experiences, stories about their introductions to the construction field, and stories from experienced workers in the area. The meaning of the experiences that change women's gender role identities is that the gender division of labor is a source of discrimination rather than natural. Career management for female construction workers is a process of problem solving that integrates masculinity and femininity and establishes the value of mature life.
