This study aims at investigating residents’ lives staying in public rental houses and experiences regarding ‘Visiting Mental Health Service’.
For this purpose, the researchers practiced in-depth interviews with five service users of ‘Visiting Mental Health Service’ provided by SH Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation and conducted focus group interviews with three service providers and two workers of related agencies.
The result showed one major theme, three themes, and thirteen sub-themes based on the result.
The major theme was identified as “Moving from island to society: walking forward into daily life”.
The three themes were People living with diseases, isolation, poverty, and addiction(3 sub-themes) , Process and result of ‘Visiting Mental Health Service’(5 sub-themes) , and Support plan for residents with mental health issues living in public rental housings(5 sub-themes) .
Based on the findings, the study made policy suggestions and practical recommendations that can support residents’ lives suffering from mental health issues living in public rental housing.
