OECD에서 발표한 2017년 「Better Life Index」에 따르면, 한국인의 ‘시민 참여도’는 높은데 비해, ‘삶의 만족도’와 ‘일과 삶의 균형’은 낮게 나타났다. 특히 ‘공동체성’은 최하위를 기록했다. 이는 ‘시민 참여도’에 대한 문제점이 드러났다는 것을 의미한다. 즉 시민의 의견이 정책에 제대로 반영되지 못하면서, 한국 사회 내 다양한 갈등이 잠재되어 있었다는 것을 의미한다. 이러한 한국 사회 구성원 내 갈등이 극대화 되어 표출된 모습이 바로 2016년 촛불집회라 할 수 있다. 촛불집회는 촛불시위를 통해 시민권력을 재확인하는 운동이었다고 할 수 있다. 그러나 이 집회는 ‘시민권력’이 지속적인 생명력을 유지하기 위해 무엇을 해야 하는지 고민하게 하게 한 운동이기도 하였다. 이에 대한 구체적 방안은 무엇인지 모색하는 고민은 촛불집회가 끝난 지 1년 지난 현재에도 여전히 유효하다. 따라서 본 논문은 촛불집회가 보여준 ‘시민권력’의 지속가능성에 대한 고민에서 시작하고자 한다. 이와 함께 사회 갈등에 대한 지속가능한 해결방안으로 종교적 대안이 무엇인지 모색하고자 한다. 구체적으로는 교회 안의 성숙한 가톨릭 시민을 양성하면서 동시에 교회 밖으로 성숙한 가톨릭 시민을 양성하기 위한 교육인 ‘한국 가톨릭 성인교육’의 필요성을 제기하고자 한다. 먼저 신앙의 사회적 차원인 ‘공적 신앙’(public faith)이 다시 대두되고 있음을 고찰한다. 오늘날 ‘공적 종교’(public religion)의 역할이 새롭게 요청되고 있는 상황 속에서 ‘한국 가톨릭 성인교육’이 갖는 교육적 함의를 논의할 것이다. 다음으로 ‘한국 가톨릭 성인교육’의 가능성을 교회 안으로 향한[Intra Ecclesiam] 관점과 교회 밖으로 향한[Extra Ecclesiam] 관점에서 살펴보고자 한다. ‘독일 가톨릭 성인교육’ Katholische Erwachsenenbildung in Deutschland)을 모델로 삼아 한국 가톨릭 성인교육의 가능성을 찾아보고자 한다. 이로써 한국 가톨릭교회가 사회 갈등 해소에 기여하는 방안의 하나로 ‘한국 가톨릭 성인교육’을 모색하고자 한다.
According to the 「Better Life Index」 presented by OECD in 2017, while Korea’s ‘Civic Engagement’ appeared to be high however indicators such as ‘Life Satisfaction’ and ‘Work-Life Balance’ appeared to be low. Especially, ‘Community’ rate ranked last in the list. This represents exposure of the limitation of ‘Civic Engagement’. In other words, as the opinions of citizens are not properly reflected in policy, it means that social conflicts has already been potentially existed in Korean society. These social complications have become maximized in Korean society and resulted in the candlelight rally 2016. The candlelight rally was the movement of reconfirming the power of citizen through the candlelight vigil. However, at the same time this movement gave consideration on what is needed to maintain continuous life force of ‘the power of citizen’. It has been a year since the candlelight rally ended, though the consideration on what detailed suggestions in maintaining the continuous life force of the power of citizen are still available until the present time. Therefore this paper will start with the consideration on sustainability of ‘the power of citizen’ shown by the candlelight rally. At the same time alternatives in the religious aspect will be suggested as a sustainable solution to social conflicts. Specifically the necessity of ‘Adult Education in Korean Catholic’ will be raised to foster mature citizens inside the church. In order that the reemergence of ‘public faith’ which is the social dimension of religious belief will be discussed forehand. And then this paper will emphasize that there is a new kind of demand on the role of ‘public religion’ in present day. On the basis of these discussions, the educational implications of ‘Adult Education in Korean Catholic’ within the boundary of ‘public religion’ will be addressed. The following discussion is about the possibility of ‘Adult Education in Korean Catholic’. The possibility of Adult Education in Korean Catholic will be considered through Adult Education in German Catholic (Katholische Erwachsenenbildung in Deutschland) Thereby, this paper will raise ‘Adult Education in Korean Catholic’ of Korean Catholic Church as to contribute in solving social conflicts.
