This article is a study to suggest post-ableism art education as an education for understanding disability based on art education. Art education of post-ableism means arts education that allows us to deconstruct ableism which gives value to normality in all aspects of our lives. The purpose of this study is to suggest the direction of post-ableism art education. Based on the literature review, this study suggests that post-ableism art education aims for social justice and aims to embrace diversity and differences. In addition, the theoretical frame of culturally responsive education, critical multiculturalism, oppositional work, and post-oppositional work, and the critical thinking strategies were proposed to be applied at the individual, cultural, and institutional level where ableism exerts influence. As a result, as the direction of post-ableism art education, it was proposed to utilize disability art, to read media, to deconstruct the disabling narrative, and to make a universal design for learning. This study is useful for educators who want to design an art based education for understanding disabilities that focuses on recognizing how non/disabled learners have prejudices about (people with) disabilities in their lives and empowering them with their voices through art.
