이 연구의 전제는 교육은 지식의 유통과 소비의 과정이며, 교육사의 임무 가운데 하나는 지식의 유통과 소비의 과정을 역사적으로 추적하는 것이라는 것이다. 이러한 관점에서『금강경』이라는 대승 경전의 한국 전통사회에서의 유통과정과 교화사적을 고찰하고 그 교육사적 의미를 찾는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 연구의 주요 내용은 제2장에서 금강경의 성립과정과 구성 형식을 고찰하였으며, 3장에서는 금강경이 우리나라에서 유통된 과정과 교화사적을 고찰하였다. 본론인 3장의 내용은 다시 삼국시대와 고려시대, 조선시대로 구분하여 고찰하였다. 삼국시대의 경우, 신라의 금강경 연구 저술과 민간의 설화를 소개하였으며, 백제의 경우 호국신앙과 관련된 내용을 소개하였다. 고려시대의 경우, 국가적 의례를 통한 교화사적과 변상도를 통한 교화사적, 지눌과 혜심의 교화사적, 인쇄술의 발달과 교화사적 등으로 나누어 그 교화사적을 고찰하고 교육적 의미를 찾으려 했다. 또 조선시대의 경우, 조선초기의 금강경언해사업에 의한 교화사적과 함허 득통의 금강경오가해설의의 유포에 따른 교화사적, 금강경 신앙을 통한 교화사적, 구운몽에 반영된 금강경 사상 등으로 구분하여 금강경의 교화사적과 유통과정을 고찰하고 그 교육사적 의의를 찾았다.
The premises of this study are two-fold: education is the process of circulation and consumption of knowledge; an important duty of educational history is to investigate the process of circulation and consumption of knowledge. From this point of view, this study aims to investigate the circulating process and educational trace of the Diamond-sutra(金岡IJ糸M)， the Mahayana Sutras, in traditional Korean society and find the meaning of educational history about it. The formative process and constituent form of the Diamond-sutra are considered in Chapter 2. The circulating process and educational trace of the Diamond-sutra in Korea have been considered in historical order of the era of the Three States, Goryeo, and Choseon in Chapter 3. The publications and folktales related to the Diamond-sutra in Silla and the faith for the country in Baikje have been introduced. The educational traces through national ceremony, Byunsangdo(變相圖， picture related to the Sutras), Jinul(知言內) and Hyesim(慧謀)， and typographic development in Goryeo have been considered and meaning of educational traces has been investigated. The circulating process and educational trace of the Diamond-sutra based on the educational traces through the significance of educational history of circulating process and educational trace of the Diamond-sutras korean interpretation work, circulation of The significance of educational history of circulating process and educational trace of the Diamond-sutra's commentary by Hamheo(涵虛)， faith of the Diamond-sutra, philosophy of Diamondsutra reflected in The Cloud Dream of the Nine(九雲夢) in Choseon have been considered.
