The purpose of study is to describe in general and understand and the nature and meaning of contents of group art therapy experiences conducted to alcohol use disorder patients by students who are studying for art therapy master s degree. For this, experimental participants are chosen among 13 of both gender adults patients who are under treatment in 4 closed wards of each private hospitals located in Gyeonggi-do province and Seoul and also have participated in group art therapy activities at least 8 times. Max Van Menen s hermeneutic phenomenological research method was used to understand and convey meaning of their personal experience vividly and materials were collected from July of 2016 to November of 2016 by interview. On basis of these materials, 10 main topics and 30 sub topics were deduced after analyzing it. Conclusions are as bellows : First, group art therapy can be a time for them to relieve pressure and rage made under the hospitalization freely in visual and linguistic way and also can add vitamin on their hospitalization. Second, Alcohol use disorder patients can experience intimacy and sense of kinship by group art therapy which makes them talk candidly and comfort each other with empathy. Third, for alcohol use disorder patients, group art therapy can be an experience that makes them voluntarily withdraw their long lasted resentment towards their family and can be a time for them to perceive preciousness of their family by their own. Fourth, Alcohol use disorder patients can realize their current status rigidly and move towards to find hope about their future by rediscovering their new identity by group art therapy.
