The purpose of this study was to analyze how and to what extent elementary school teachers’ teaching careers, such as length of service, experience as head teacher, and school location affected, their desire for promotion.
For this, a survey was conducted on 312 elementary school teachers by school size in Gyeonggi-do. To analyze the affects of elementary school teachers’ teaching careers on their desires for promotion, multiple regression was applied.
Analysis results revealed the following points. First, men had a greater desire for promotion than women, and the lower in the teacher’s age, the lower their desire for promotion. Second, elementary school teachers’ desire for promotion was considerably affected by their teaching careers, such as length of service, experience as head teacher, and school location.
These findings reflect that elementary school teachers’ desire for promotion would be either increased or decreased depending on their teaching careers, such as length of service, experience as head teacher, and school location. This study, accordingly, implies the necessity for examining how the variables related to elementary school teachers’ desire for promotion is related to the teacher promotion system.
