The purpose of this study was to comprehensively understand heterogeneous qualitative research on the field practicum experience of art therapy students using qualitative meta-synthesis methodology. For this purpose, the results of the qualitative study on their field practice experience were comprehensively reviewed and the mutual conversion analysis method of Noblit and Hare (1988) was applied. As a result of synthesizing, the 14 selected papers, 15 sub-concepts and 4 super-concepts were derived. The specific contents were ‘Novice therapists faced the limitation of art therapy practice test,’ ‘The process of breathing life into a theory,’ ‘Believing and following the power of art therapy as a healing catalyst,’ and ‘Establishing a worldview to become an expert.’ The comprehensive concept was ‘the cornerstone of mutual growth between clients and therapists through art.’ The development stage could be divided into four areas: initial entry barriers, the overcoming process of difficulties, overcoming strategies, and results of overcoming. In the discussion of the research results, the developmental stages and comprehensive concepts were explained by re-describing the experience focusing on high-level topics. Afterwards, based on the results and discussions, suggestions were made to improve the quality of field training for art therapy students.
