The purpose of this study is to explore the response characteristics of adolescents' emotional and behavioral overcontrol expressed through the Thematic Apperception Test for Adolescents(TAT A) and the meaning of their experiences. For this purpose, from August through September 2022, 20 adolescents in the 5th grade of elementary school through the 3rd grade of middle school in Gyeonggi do were selected as research participants and TAT A interviews were conducted. Data were analyzed using interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA) and NVivo 12.0 in accordance with the Reporting Guidelines for Qualitative Research (COREQ). In result, the characteristics of emotional and behavioral overcontrol of the adolescents analyzed through TAT A were analyzed as 1) social comparison, perfection, 2) strictness, experiencing dissatisfaction and frustration, and 3) suppressing behavior. Additionally, this helps overcontrolled adolescents express themselves through creative activities. In conclusion, TAT A provided a safe healing space for overcontrolled adolescents and confirmed their need for practical and psychological support. The implication of this study is to suggest various ways to utilize the TAT A picture test.
