The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parenting attitudes and children’s character strengths on children’s maladjustment behaviors, and moderating effects of children’s character strengths on the relationship between parenting attitudes and children’s maladjustment behaviors. Questionnaires were administered to 530 5th and 6th grade elementary school students in Seoul. The main results were as follows: First, there were significant gender differences in autonomy-control, justice, temperance, transcendence, internalizing and externalizing problems. Second, while courage, gender, justice, wisdom/ knowledge, autonomy-control, and transcendence were significant predictors of children’s internalizing problems, temperance, autonomy-control, courage, and wisdom/knowledge were significant predictors of their externalizing problems. Finally, temperance had moderating effects on the relationship between parenting attitudes and children’s maladjustment behaviors.
