The purpose of this study was to classify high risk adolescent parent-adolescent relationship types and to examine differences in behavior problems according to the type. Participants were 329 high-risk adolescents. Results were as followed: First, four groups were found: Conflictual relationship, Insufficient affect & discipline, Insufficient relationship, and Excessive interference. Second, the high-risk boys in Conflictual relationship and Insufficient relationship groups showed more hyperactivity and less conduct problems than the other groups. The high-risk boys in Conflictual relationship group showed the most emotional symptoms, and more total behavior problems than Insufficient relationship group counterparts. The high-risk boys in Excessive interference group showed more peer problems than Insufficient relationship group counterparts. Finally, the high-risk girls in Conflictual relationship group showed more emotional problems than Insufficient affect & discipline group counterparts.
